Mill Village MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) classroom is off to a great start! Each grade level has been working very hard to improve their reading and math skills to become successful in the classroom! Mill Village will be providing support in reading and math for all grade levels. The MTSS classroom will be working on different programs for each grade level. Students will be pulled from their classroom and given extra support for 20 - 30 minutes every day during their scheduled time.

  • Kindergarten students that come to the MTSS classroom for reading will be working on letter recognition, letter sounds and sight words. Once these skills are mastered, we will begin learning how to read! The component used from the Journeys curriculum will be the intervention pages. This will give students extra support with these skills.

  • First grade students that come to the MTSS classroom for reading will be working on a program called Logic. Logic is a systematic, explicit, reading and spelling program. This program is going to promote strong decoding and fluent, accurate reading.

  • Second grade students that come to the MTSS classroom for reading will be working on fluency and comprehension skills. The component used from the Journeys curriculum will be the Write-In-Reader. They will be following the same scheduled lessons as in the regular education classroom. We will focus on the same skills and review these skills throughout the year.

  • Third, fourth and fifth grade students that come to the MTSS classroom for reading will be working on reading skills and strategies to use while taking assessments. Our goal this year for these grade levels is to prepare them for the assessments that they take throughout the school year.

  • All students in grades K-5 that come to the MTSS classroom for math will be focusing on the skills they are learning in the regular classroom. The component used from the My Math curriculum will be the reteach pages. This will give students more practice with the skills and concepts that they are learning in the classroom. Grades 3 - 5 will also be working on math skills and strategies to use while taking assessments throughout the year to prepare for the PSSA.
